I’m not a social media guy. I have X/Twitter and Facebook accounts but don’t use either—they were set up primarily to connect other accounts. Both services have grown more walled off in recent years, and each time I’d log in I’d find they’d become more hateful with feeds full of misinformation. I had no followers to speak of (by choice) and did not follow or like anyone, so I had little reason to expand my use of those platforms.
I created Bluesky and Mastodon accounts when those services were in their infancy. They have fewer users but there is also less negativity. More importantly, I can share a link to my profile so others can view my posts without an account, and posting to both is easy with a single app.
My intent is to use Bluskey and Mastodon as microblogging platforms for short, point-in-time thoughts that I don’t feel are appropriate for this blog. You’re welcome to sign up for accounts if you want to follow me, but it’s not required, and the same content will be shared to both services. You can get caught up at any time via the links below.
